OFAC Enforcements for 2007, an Analysis

As many of you know, the OFAC department of the US Treasury publishes a list of civil penalties and enforcements pursuant to the Code of Federal Regulations. For the year 2007 there were 12 such publications in PDF format and so I decided to review each file and perform some analysis on the listing.

Google, provides a free service called "Google Docs" for my analysis I used the spreadsheet functionality of Google Docs and have published the document and made it available to all below.

The top 10 settlements or fines for that year were all above $100,000. The largest settlement was against Chevron Inc for $2 million and was part of a $30 million (!) multi-agency settlement for violating the Oil-for-Food program.

Total settlements or fines for that year reached $4,344,586 from the 56 enforcements published. These enforcements affected various forms of industry such as:
